Effects in Final Cut express

As we will be using final cut express to edit our film to an adequate standard I decided to look into effects that can be produced with it. A few have jumped out at me as ones we could use for different reasons.

One effect I noticed gives a lot of emphasis on a single object. It makes it stand out by making it the only object in the scene that has colour. The rest of the background is changed to black and white. There are a few places in our film where this could be used for instance to highlight one of the characters such as the lost girl or to show a significant item such as the toy.

I have included a screenshot of the youtube video i used to teach me how to carry out this effect. You can see in the canvas window That the handle of the pair of scissors is blue which is it's original colour and the rest of the scene is black and white.
